This was not an intended project. I merely wanted to recommit to practicing each morning with no specific outcome in mind. I had scraps of watercolor paper and paint and a bit of tulle and a desire to be playful, to wonder and wander about.

I found a natural gravitation toward blues and greens and let the watercolor flow. The cool tones were soothing, calming; especially in the blistering heat of this summer. Layering on blocks and circles painted with acrylic came naturally.

I observed myself as playful with the first block and more intentional with the second one and freaking out on the third one. Yep, there it is: starting to put pressure on the need to be complete, perfect; wanting affirmation and finally beginning to envision how I could frame them.

Moving on from my artistic self-absorption, I wondered why I felt having 3 blocks was important. One seemed alone; two, forced and three, complete. Three is considered a perfect number: Past Present Future; Beginning Middle End; Birth, Life, Death. I am content with Harmony Wisdom Understanding. That’s what the artist in me seeks.

I now have several one-of-a-kind pieces; some as notecards and others as a framed trio.
