I loved heading into DC every spring to experience the Cherry Blossoms around the Jefferson Memorial. There is something so captivating about them. They are truly symbolic of new beginnings, rebirth, and hope.

Over the years, I have watercolored the cherry blossom, focusing on a branch or a single blossom. This year, I wanted to have a tree explode with vitality and vibrancy to usher in a hearty, celebratory spring.

I am still working on this year’s piece and haven’t yet landed on one that I will convert to a greeting card. I don’t want to rush the creation. This is not about perfection, I think I am just savoring the moment of a fully bloomed cherry tree.

Happy Spring, Happy Easter y’all.

One of my favorite photos of my mother (GRHS) was her standing beneath one of the trees by the Tidal Basin. Her smile showed the joy it brought to her, being in the midst of such beauty and fragrance. Thank you for inviting us to touch that joy in ourselves, a response to God’s beautiful creation.
